Description

Steelseries delivers a one-two punch of awesome with its first mouse—the Ikari, a standard five-button, right-handed design suitable for gamers who use either the palm and claw-style grips. With its low-profile design, the Ikari doesn’t provide sufficient support for folks who like to rest their palm on the mouse; our palm-gripped tester had a stiff hand after a few hours of play. Nonetheless, the Ikari’s other features and kick-ass sensor make us almost willing to ignore the less-than-ergonomically perfect shape.

We love the Ikari’s tournament-friendly, driverless design. Using the screen on the bottom of the mouse, you can tweak the sensitivity of the mouse on any PC, without any dependence on drivers. The settings you create are stored in the mouse’s flash memory, so they’ll work on any PC you use, even a tournament rig that you’ve never even played on before. Once you configure the mouse’s high and low sensitivity settings, you can swap between the two using the sensitivity button directly below the scroll wheel. A pair of white LEDs on the side of the mouse light up to show you which sensitivity you’re using.

Now let’s be realistic: The sensitivity indicator lights are really just a gimmick. In the heat of an online firefight, you’d have to be suicidal to glance down to make sure you’re on the proper sensitivity! Harmless gimmicks are forgivable, but the real problem here is that the Ikari only lets you switch between two sensitivity settings, on-the-fly. It’s not a deal-breaker, but on the sensitivity front, we hate having to choose just two sensitivities. Hell, three settings is barely enough! But aside from this quibble, the Ikari’s six-button design is positioned for quick and easy access, even in the most heated of battles. The button layout includes two top buttons, two thumb buttons, a single button on the scroll wheel, and the sensitivity adjustment button.

With a sensitive laser sensor and a driverless approach designed to appeal to hardcore tournament players (who play their most important matches on machines not their own), the Ikari Laser leaves us undeniably stoked. With a few tweaks for comfort and one more sensitivity setting, this mouse could easily reach Kick Ass territory.

Sony Reader Digital Book PRS-505

I have always liked Sony simply because they know how to create a gadget that looks and feels right. Bose Quiet Comfort 3

Bose Quiet Comfort 3

Bose's QuietComfort 3 headphones are a smaller and more compact follow-up to the QuietComfort 2s. They offer a more compact design, extracomfortable cushy foam earpieces, a rechargeable battery, full sound, and effective noise-canceling circuitry, and they fold up for storage in the included carrying case. Additionally, Bose offers a 30-day home trial.

With the QuietComfort 3s, Bose has done a remarkable job of shrinking its popular noise-canceling headphones while achieving similarly impressive sound quality--but that engineering feat doesn't come cheap.

TOKYO, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today unveiled the new PlayStation®3 (CECH-2000A) (body color: charcoal black) computer entertainment system, featuring an extremely streamlined form factor with a 120GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD). The new PlayStation®3 (PS3®) system will become available in stores from September 1, 2009, in North America, Europe/ PAL territories and Asian countries and regions at a very attractive recommended retail price (RRP) of US$299 and euro 299, respectively. The system will become available in Japan on September 3, 2009, at a RRP of 29,980 yen (including tax). With the introduction of the new PS3 system, SCE will also reduce the price of the current PS3 with 80GB HDD to a RRP of US$299 from August 18 and euro 299 from August 19. Also in North America, the price of PS3 with 160GB HDD will be reduced to a RRP of US$399 from August 18. By launching a vast library of exciting and attractive software titles for PS3 this holiday season and offering customers a line-up of hardware models and pricing to match their preference, SCE will build on the momentum and further accelerate the expansion of the PS3 platform.

The internal design architecture of the new PS3 system, from the main semiconductors and power supply unit to the cooling mechanism, has been completely redesigned, achieving a much slimmer and lighter body. Compared to the very first PS3 model with 60GB HDD, the internal volume as well as its thickness and weight are trimmed down to approximately two-thirds. Furthermore, power consumption is also cut to two-thirds, helping to reduce fan noise. While inheriting the sleek curved body design of the original model, the form factor of the new PS3 system features a new meticulous design with textured surface finish, giving an all new impression and a casual look. With the compact body and casual appearance, the newly introduced model will appeal to a wider audience who are looking to buy the best entertainment system for their home.

Concurrently with the release of the new PS3 system, SCE will modify the PS3 brand name from "PLAYSTATION 3" to "PlayStation 3", and introduce a new "PS3" logo, which is engraved on the surface of the new PS3 system. By unifying under the familiar "PlayStation®" name, which represents the entire PlayStation family, PS3 together with PlayStation®2 and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) will further expand the PlayStation business, and will continue to enhance the entertainment experience along with the ever-growing PlayStation®Network.

The new PS3 continues to offer the cutting-edge features and functions of the current models, such as the ability to enjoy high-definition Blu-ray disc (BD) movies and games, as well as various content and services downloadable through the network. The new PS3's storage size has increased from 80GB to 120GB, and with the extra capacity users will be able to store more games, music, photos, videos as well as various content and services available through PlayStation Network. Having more than 27 million registered accounts around the world, PlayStation Network offers more than 15,000 pieces of digital content, ranging from game titles, trailers, and demos to more than 15,000 movies and TV shows via PlayStation Store(*1). PlayStation Network members can also download free applications, such as PlayStation Home, a ground-breaking 3D social gaming community available on PS3 that allows users to interact, communicate and share gaming experiences, as well as Life with PlayStation, which offers users various news and information on a TV monitor in the living room by connecting the PS3 to the network.

Since the launch of PS3 in November 2006, the number of BD-based titles has reached more than 1,000 titles and downloadable PS3 games to 1,400(*2) titles worldwide, with the support from a broad range of third party game developers and publishers. In addition to this extensive software title line-up, exciting and attractive new titles are to be released from SCE Worldwide Studios, including Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, EyePet, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, MAG, ModNation Racer, Gran Turismo 5 and more.

Other features of the new PS3 include:

PS3 system software update version 3.00

Concurrently with the release of new PS3, system software will be upgraded to version 3.00 on September 1. The update adds various user-friendly features such as the "What's New" screen, where users can quickly browse the new items available in PlayStation Store as well as their recently played games directly on the XMB(TM) (XrossMediaBar), with short cuts to each piece of content. PS3 will evolve continuously with the system software updates, further improving the operability and enhancing the user experience available through the network. PS3 owners will be able to enjoy new features by simply updating the PS3 system software to version 3.00 via the "System Update" function on the XMB(*3).

- BRAVIA(R) Sync(TM) Feature

The new PS3 system is also equipped with the BRAVIA(R) Sync(TM) feature. By connecting the new PS3 system and a BRAVIA TV with the HDMI cable, users are able to directly operate the XMB on PS3 using the TV remote
control. Other functions include "System Standby" that will automatically turn off the PS3 system when the BRAVIA TV is turned off(*4).

- "Vertical Stand" for new PS3 (CECH-2000 series)

By utilizing the separately sold "Vertical Stand", users will be able to set the new PS3 in vertical position(*5), making it easier to place the PS3 system anywhere at home. The vertical stand will become available in Japan on September 3, 2009, at a RRP of 2,000 yen (including tax) and in North America at US$24(*6).

- Removal of "Install Other OS" feature

The new PS3 system will focus on delivering games and other entertainment content, and users will not be able to install other

JVC Everio X GZ-X900

JVC GZ X900

The new Everio is basically a compact video camera that records at full 1920×1080 1080i resolution at 24Mbps in its highest setting. It can take 9-megapixel still images and records directly to an SD/SDHC memory card. It weights 300 grams (.66 pounds) and has a 2.8-inch color screen.

JVC's new "Everio X" GZ-X900 camcorder is just what we like in a flagship device: incredible style, crazy specs, and awesome slow motion video of us slapping people. The GZ-X900 reworks the Everio line into a new brick-like form factor that's bordering on the shape of camcorders of yore, but JVC puts a nice twist to it, and the camera is obviously very compact. JVC used some "premium materials" in the construction and it really shows, but what's more exciting is the high-end 1080p resolution, with 1000 "TV lines" to sample from (it's not upscaling from a completely bum source like many compact camcorders). The unit also works as a fast-action still camera, for 9 megapixel shots at 15 fps, and 5.3 megapixel shots at 60 fps. What we're really wild about is the 600 fps slow motion, which operates at a 640 x 72 resolution -- you can get more pixels at slower frame rates. Unfortunately, none of this good stuff comes cheap: the camera hits retail in June for an even $1000.

JVC Everio X GZ-X900 Specs
- 1/2.33" CMOS, 10.3 Megapixel
- 5x Optical / 8x Dynamic / 200x Digital (max.)
- KONICA MINOLTA HD LENS
- Video: [AVCHD] MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, Audio: Dolby Digital (2ch)
- UXP: 1920x1080i, Avg. 24Mbps (VBR)
- 2.8" 207K-pixel Color LCD

Introducing Razer Naga

Razer Naga

Once again razer is back with a boom in the market. The first ever mouse to be produced with such a vast functionality. If you've played World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online, Eve Online, or other MMOs, you've most likely felt overwhelmed by the number of hot keys required to attack, communicate, and manage your inventory.

Razer's new Naga gaming mouse targets MMO gamers by incorporating a 12-button keypad into the side of the device.

The Razer Naga gaming mouse targets MMO gamers with a built-in 12-button keypad.

(Credit: Razer)

Aside from the keypad, the Naga looks like a wired version of the Razer Mamba from earlier this year. Like the Mamba, the Naga has all of the speeds and feeds common to high-end gaming mice, including a 5,600 dpi laser sensor and 1,000MHz polling rate. You won't really need those high-precision settings to master the assisted targeting and timed-attack mechanics in a MMO, but it's hard to find a gaming mouse these days without such crazy settings, so you might as well have them.

Razer also boasts in-game configuration add-ons for World of Warcraft and Warhammer Online for the Naga, which will hopefully simplify mapping the various key commands. And if the Naga is reasonably comfortable and intuitive to use, we can see how it might appeal to other gamers, digital media artists, or users of any other hot key-heavy software.

Razer lists the Naga for $79.99 on its Web site, and says it will be available online "soon."

sennheiser HD800

sennheiser HD800

Sennheiser is a manufacturer of audio equipment that often surprises us with the high quality of its products. This time things do not change and has a headphone over one would like, but its price may leave out of the reach of the majority.

The HD 800 are made by hand, the material used in manufacturing was mainly stainless steel and a special plastic. The copper wire of these headsets is reinforced with a special material to increase the resistance and bathed in silver to enhance the audio signal. Besides the pads are covered with a cloth to avoid any problems with our ears.

As for the more technical part we can say that with a 56mm speaker on each side with a frequency response that ranges from 6 to 51,000 hertz and an impedance of 300ohms. All this is nothing less because the price they have set for retail is around 1045 euros, which leaves them completely out of the reach of most pockets.

Casio Exilim EX-S12 Digital Camera

Casio Exilim EX-S12

Casio continues to demonstrate that when it comes to cramming as much camera as possible into the smallest space possible, nobody does it better. With the exception of a couple of remarkable high-speed super-zoom models, the company's Exilim camera range is full of tiny high-performance ultra-compact cameras that are usually of high quality, and are nearly always good value for money. It continues to surprise me that their market share is so low.

Take this new Exilim EX-S12 for example. It's the latest in a line of cameras that goes back through previous models such as the 2007 EX-S770 and EX-S880, with contributions from last year's EX-Z80 and of course the EX-S10 upon which it is largely based, but with some new contributions that come via the advanced technology of the EX-FC100.

Describing the EX-S12 as an ultra-compact barely does it justice. It's a 12.1-megapixel, 3x zoom camera weighing just 130g including battery, and with a strong and attractively finished aluminium body that's only 17mm at its thickest point. Yet despite its tiny dimensions it has a list of features would put many larger cameras to shame, including a 2.7-inch 230k monitor screen, advanced face recognition, automatic brightness correction, adjustable portrait enhancement, continuous flash shooting, and topping it off with an HD video recording mode, all for around £170. It even takes decent pictures.

Samsung Star S5230

Introduction:

Samsung Star S5230 ReviewThe Samsung Star S5230 was initially introduced along with the Samsung Preston S5600, both meant for people on tight budget. What the manufacturer is striving to achieve is get a chunk of the mainstream market with both phones targeting people who need the comfort of a modern touch sensitive screen device that offers up to date functionality at a decent price tag. We are about to review the first one, the Star S5230 that also happens to be major rival of the all popular and scrumptious LG Cookie KP500. Here is what you will find in the box:

* Samsung Star S5230
* Wall charger
* Stereo headset
* UBS cable
* Software disk
* User Guide

Design:

Samsung´s star measures almost the same size, weight, functionality and general specifications like the LG Cookie KP500, but looks more shiny and polished. It is on the compact size and carrying it around in your pocket feels as if it´s not actually there. The phone sports 3-inch display with 240x400 pixel resolution and 262k colors that manages to deliver proper image quality in artificial lighting conditions, just as most other screens featuring similar specs do. Situation gets much worse in direct sunlight though with the phone turning into immaculate mirror, just like the Cookie. Come to sensitivity, the resistive display of the Samsung S5230 seems to be a step behind what it arch rival delivers, yet as a whole it doesn´t fare bad at all.

The three buttons below are not really large, but they have enough travel and pressing them is easily discernible. Volume rocker, power and camera shutter are onto its sides and our only gripe is pressing the first two requires more efforts alongside of the other keys. We would have liked it better if side buttons were located slightly below where they actually are, because pressing them during calls feels somewhat uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the phone sports the standard manufacturer´s port used for both charging or connecting it to a computer and not a mainstream microUSB port. The whole back side is actually a single plastic panel with rugged stencil pattern that helps to prevent the phone from sliding out of your hand. We are disappointed that you need to remove the battery to get to the microSDHC card slot.

Bose Lifestyle V10 Home Theater System

Description:

Lifestyle® V10 home theater system
  • A 5-speaker surround sound system for your Blu-ray Disc™ player
  • Five Virtually Invisible® single cube speakers, ideal for smaller rooms
  • HDMI connectivity for two sources
  • Video upscaling to 1080p
  • Media console with abundant inputs/outputs, AM/FM tuner
  • Customized audio performance for your room

The Lifestyle® V10 home theater system features HD compatibility for your DVD player and other components. Hide your connections from view; an elegant display panel serves as the visual interface for your system. Video upscaling ensures your movies and sports always use the highest resolution capabilities of your display, up to 1080p over HDMI.

Lifestyle V-class™ systems present a different approach to home theater—and a better way to experience it. There's no need for a large, complex receiver. Instead, connect your DVD player, gaming console and other high-definition components to our well-labeled media console. Then tuck the console out of view. All you see is a stand-alone display to receive and control system information.

The Lifestyle® V10 home theater system automatically synchronizes the correct audio and video with the push of a button on the universal remote. And it upscales video to the highest resolution capabilities of your display, up to 1080p over HDMI.

Sound designed for your room

Your room is unique, with size, shape, textures and other elements affecting the sound you hear. The ADAPTiQ® system was developed to analyze your room and then adjust the Lifestyle® surround sound system for a consistent, high quality performance each time you listen.

Experience Bose® surround sound

Virtually Invisible® single cube speakers combine a level of performance and elegance that's ideal for smaller rooms. These small speakers work in concert with a hideaway Acoustimass® module. Its exclusive technology provides the emotional intensity you feel at the theater and powerful low tones you hear at a concert hall.

The Lifestyle® V10 system also features Bose link technology to distribute the system's audio around your home. Just add compatible Bose products and extend your system's benefits to other rooms where you want to enjoy music, or even outdoors.

Automatic video upscaling ensures movies and sports use the highest resolution capabilities of your display—up to 1080p over HDMI.

Automatic audio/video synchronization slightly delays audio while the video processor enhances the signal—so what you hear is always in sync with what you see.

Abundant inputs/outputs let you connect up to four external video sources—including two HDMI—and five audio sources.

Control integration enables the Lifestyle® system's radio-frequency remote to operate most popular functions on other infrared-receiving equipment in your home entertainment system: TV, VCR, PVR, cable box or satellite receiver. TV sensor makes turning on your home entertainment system a one-button operation.

Other cables and accessories included
  • Front speaker cables (3)
  • Rear speaker cables (2)
